My rose - survived the winter!

My rose in the picture has survived the winter! We have quite a few roses, and this year it looks like they all made it!

Thing 23

Finished! Whew!

Congratulations to the Team for this successful program. It was fun!

Wordle and LibraryThing

I like Wordle - quick, fun, colourful - instant gratification! LibraryThing looks neat - I'll have to spend some time with it in the future to see all it can do.

Community Walk - I'd Rather Walk

I'm familiar with Google Maps and have had some past basic experience with GIS. Community Walk is new to me - and while it was okay and even maybe fun (I had some technical problems that frustrated me), I'd rather be out there walking for real.

Widgets are wonderful!

I like widgets and gadgets! If I had more time, I'd probably load up on them. There certainly are a lot of them - something for everyone and every taste!

Social Bookmarking and Diigo

Diigo - interesting.... I browsed around to see what was there, but it wasn't enough to convince me to sign up for an account. Tags are one way to organize favourites, and I suppose this would be good. I'm not a big user (or hoarder) of favourites...

I might browse through the other social bookmarking sites to compare the differences. There are choices out there and one might interest me more than others!

Social Networking

I don't use Facebook or twitter (although I have browsed walls and tweets) - just not my thing, personally. But I do see the interest in it for organizations and companies. Is it just a trend or a fad? What will come next? Is there a fear or pressure that if you aren't personally connected then you will get left behind? I'm not signing up for accounts now, but in the future, who knows?

Photosharing - a piece of cake?

There seems to be a Winnipeg theme in my attic, so I thought I would share the only picture I could find on Flickr of a Jeanne's Bakery cake (and not even a nice-looking one, but Happy Birthday Charlene, wherever you are!).

I'm part of the Photo of the Week sub-committee of LAC and we use Flickr, so we are getting more experience using this at work. Please submit photos for Photo of the Week!

Wikis

Wikis would be helpful for doing group work and research. I haven't used wikis recently, so it was great to be reminded of them and have the nudge to get out there and use them!

Week 6 - Podcasts

I thought it would be more difficult to find a podcast I was interested in, but found NOVA/PBS right away. I try to watch the program on TV, but there is something to be said for getting a "science minute" podcast. So you must know by now that I wasn't a postcast listener/viewer, but I've added the rss feed for the NOVA podcast to my iGoogle page and to my Google Reader, and we'll see how that goes.

Now that I'm caught up I might go back and explore some of the things we have already learned... :)

Arlington Bridge in Winnipeg

Arlington Bridge spans the CPR railyards in Winnipeg was built in 1910. I've been over this bridge many, many times...

Winnipeg on YouTube

I grew up in Winnipeg and recently took a quick trip there to visit my Mom. Here is a video of my home town.

Prezi - Thing 8

A Prezi about music can only mean one thing - Queen! I have seen Prezi presentations but never used it before myself.

My simple Queen Prezi can be found here .

Week 4 - Google Docs and Spreadsheets

Whew! I'm all caught up now! Google Documents seems very useful. I'm hardly a Spreadsheet whiz, but Google Spreadsheets seems easy enough...

Moving right along - Google Reader

I've just done my Google Reader assignment - this is one thing I haven't tried before. It is always a good thing to learn something new!

RSS Feeds

Well, I've done my RSS Feeds for the 23 Things. RSS feeds are not new to me, but I haven't used them much. I guess I'm more of a serendipity kind of person...

Registered my blog - hello everyone!

Okay - the blog is now registered. Time to say something interesting?

Thing 1 - iGoogle

I have used iGoogle for several years off and on. Lately it has been more off, so I cleaned up my old page... gets me back at it again!
